Apple increasingly integrates artificial intelligence into its products, but a noticeable increase in iPhone 16 sales is yet to come. With the introduction of Apple Intelligence for the latest iPhone generation, the company takes another step towards AI technology.
The iPhone 16 models introduced in September include initial applications of this new technology, featuring functions like message correction and calendar entry creation. The introduction of Apple Intelligence is being rolled out gradually, initially exclusively in the USA and limited to the new iPhone 16 models as well as the high-end iPhone 15.
Analysts report a cautious start and mixed user feedback. Some of the new features are reminiscent of already existing applications on Android smartphones. Nevertheless, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives speaks of a "multi-year AI journey" for Apple, which could enable the company to experience a "true supercycle" in terms of technological breakthroughs.
Apple plans to use the December quarter as the first testing ground for iPhone 16 sales, particularly with a view to the holiday season. However, the impact on revenue figures is not expected until the first quarter of 2025 at the earliest. Apple Intelligence is available as a free software update and is unlikely to have a direct impact on revenue initially.
As with the launch of the Apple Watch, Apple Intelligence could initially experience a slow start before showing a significant impact on financial figures. Investors hope for a quick establishment but must anticipate a longer development period before Apple Intelligence fully emerges as a driving force in the iPhone sales strategy.
