Siemens Mobility, the rail technology subsidiary of the Munich-based conglomerate, has signed a significant contract to equip the Copenhagen S-train network with signaling technology for automatic and driverless operation. By 2033, the 170-kilometer-long network of the Danish capital will be completely retrofitted for automated operation. This was announced by Siemens Mobility. The agreement with the Danish network operator Banedanmark and the railway company DSB includes an order volume of approximately 270 million euros.

The initiative is a crucial step in the modernization of urban mobility in Copenhagen and reflects the ambition to implement efficient and future-proof transportation solutions. The contract between Siemens and the Danish railway companies includes both the delivery of signaling technology for the trains and the necessary equipment for the tracks.

This technological advancement in Denmark's transportation system is also of interest to investors, as Siemens' share price rose by 0.81 percent to 174.36 euros in XETRA trading due to this news. The automated operation of the S-Bahn will not only increase the network's efficiency, but also contribute to a reduction in operating costs and to an improvement in the environmental balance in the long term.
