Tesla advances the introduction of its advanced driver assistance technology in China.

Chinese authorities have not yet given final approval to the technology, but CEO Elon Musk received preliminary approval during a visit to Beijing last year. Analysts expect Tesla to get the green light for FSD this year, especially as competition grows: BYD recently introduced an AI-supported driving system for the mass market.

The new Tesla update enables, among other things, automatic lane changes, navigation through intersections, and detection of traffic signals for turning maneuvers. An infrared camera monitors whether the driver remains attentive, with video processing occurring exclusively in the vehicle and, according to Tesla, not being forwarded to third parties or the company itself.

For the moment, the update is only available to a limited group of Tesla owners who have purchased the enhanced assistance package for approximately $8,800 and whose vehicles are equipped with a more powerful onboard computer.

Musk recently acknowledged regulatory hurdles: While China bans the export of vehicle video data for training purposes, U.S. regulations prevent Tesla from conducting its model training within China. Despite these challenges, experts expect FSD to be approved soon in the world's largest market for electric vehicles.
