Sony has officially announced the long-awaited PlayStation 5 Pro, confronting the gaming community with an unexpectedly high price. The new console, which will be available worldwide starting November 7, 2024, will be launched at a price of 799.99 euros – an increase of more than 60 percent compared to the original PlayStation 5.

While the standard version of the PlayStation 5 was sold for 549 euros at its launch, Sony surprises with the high entry price of the Pro version, which exceeds previous price expectations. The console comes with significant technical improvements, including a 67 percent more powerful GPU and advanced ray tracing, which is expected to significantly enhance graphics quality. Additionally, the new AI-based "Spectral Super Resolution" promises sharper images and smoother rendering, which is especially important for graphics-intensive games.

The price announcement has triggered mixed reactions in the gaming community. While some players criticize the price as excessive and debate on social media whether Sony has crossed the consumer pain threshold, others praise the technical advances of the console. In particular, fans who value the highest graphics performance are excited about the new features.

Sony targets the PlayStation 5 Pro primarily at core gamers who are willing to invest more for top performance. Despite the high costs, Sony hopes to maintain strong demand through the technological superiority of the new console, particularly in graphics and performance.
