Apple's innovation machine never stops. While the Vision Pro headset is still hotly debated, Cupertino is already working on the next big idea: a foldable iPad that's almost as large as two iPad Pros side by side. What initially sounds like science fiction is already in development according to internal sources—and could hit the market as early as 2028.

A Seamless Display Revolution

The key to Apple's concept: The foldable device should appear as a single, continuous piece of glass. No visible seam, no disruptive factors. This is what Apple aims to achieve, where Samsung, Lenovo, and others have previously failed.

Samsung has been struggling for years with the unpopular display crease of its Fold models – and Apple knows that perfection is the key to success here. Initial prototypes show that the company is making progress, but whether the technology can fully meet expectations remains to be seen.

Why a foldable iPad at all?

The demand for ever larger displays is unbroken. Gamers, developers, and movie fans are looking for larger screens without having to forgo mobility. But a 20-inch tablet is simply impractical without a folding mechanism. A foldable device could bridge the gap between the worlds of laptops and tablets.

Microsoft tried years ago with the Courier and Surface Neo on similar concepts - both failed miserably. Lenovo's Yoga Book 9i is a solid product, but it falls short of the elegance and user-friendliness that Apple fans expect.

The Big Goal: A New User Experience

Apple plans to create a hybrid user experience with its foldable device. It is expected to be neither a pure iPad nor MacBook, but a device that combines elements of both worlds. The device software, presumably an evolution of iPadOS, could be capable of supporting Mac apps by 2028.

This means: A foldable iPad would not be an additional toy, but a real alternative for creatives and professionals who want to work on the go. It probably won't replace a full-fledged MacBook, but it could make the iPad redundant for many users.

The Big Picture: An Apple Ecosystem Without Boundaries

Apple's vision goes beyond the foldable iPad.

But Apple knows: This scenario will only become realistic if the technologies harmonize seamlessly with each other. So the foldable iPad must not only function perfectly but also offer a clear benefit that goes beyond mere tech fetishism.

What's Next: A New Mouse, AirTags with Super Range, and More

In parallel with major hardware revolutions, Apple is also working on seemingly small but significant innovations. A new version of the Magic Mouse, which will become more ergonomic and practical for everyday use, is in the starting blocks. The famous charging port problem (yes, the bottom!) is finally supposed to be solved.

Apple is also planning an improved version of the AirTags, which will have up to three times the range thanks to new ultrawideband chips. Finding lost items will be easier than ever before.

The Apple Watch remains exciting: A new model with satellite connection and blood pressure detection is planned for next year. This could allow Apple to further expand its position as a leader in health technology.

Foldable Future or Just a Hype?

The foldable iPad is more than just a technical gimmick. It represents a paradigm shift in the way we see and use computer technology. The big question remains: Will Apple achieve what others have not? If so, we could be on the brink of the most exciting decade in the history of consumer technology.
