Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 on Monday, which, according to CEO Tim Cook, is the first to be fully designed with artificial intelligence. With new generative AI features and the improved iOS 18 operating system, the company aims to counter declining iPhone sales and motivate users to upgrade.
The new iPhone 16 models, available from September 20, are expected to impress with AI-powered features such as enhanced Siri voice control, photo editing, and writing assistance. A partnership with OpenAI also provides users with free access to ChatGPT. Wall Street expects these innovations could boost sales next year.
The iPhone 16 will be available in four variants: Pro, Pro Max, Plus, and a base model. The starting price for the base model is $799, for the Pro $999, and for the Pro Max $1,199. The Pro models, in particular, feature the new A18 chip technology, which is based on Arm's V9 architecture and offers significantly improved performance. According to Apple, the A18 is "up to 30 percent faster" than its predecessor in the iPhone 15 and enables running AI models directly on the device.
In addition to the iPhone, Apple also presented the Apple Watch Series 10, which features a larger display, faster battery, and a new sleep apnea detection function. Additionally, new AirPods Pro 2 were announced, which will function as hearing aids in the future and feature a clinically tested hearing test function.
Analysts View the iPhone 16 as Crucial for Apple's Future." "Apple is heavily relying on software and artificial intelligence to rekindle consumer interest and boost sales," said Leo Gebbie of CCS Insight. Given the stagnating demand for new smartphones, this is an important step for the company.
