Volkswagen AG sees great potential in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and has founded its own company to explore innovations in this area. The newly established "AI Lab" serves as an incubator for this search, reports the news agency Reuters on Wednesday.

The corporation is thereby aiming for a closer cooperation with technology companies and is planning a simplification of this collaboration, emphasizes VW Group CEO Oliver Blume. However, details on the initial projects remain confidential for the time being.

The new company should not act as just another development team, but rather identify promising ideas and collaborations to be pursued by the various brands of the group. In the medium term, a low double-digit number of employees is expected to ensure the company's flexibility.
