Tech Alliance in the Defense Sector: OpenAI and Anduril Industries Enter Partnership

An existing collaboration with the US Air Force Research Laboratory aims to optimize administrative processes using OpenAI's ChatGPT. OpenAI has also integrated senior defense sector experts into its team. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, emphasizes that the alliance with Anduril will enhance the security of US military personnel. His goal is to promote a deep understanding and responsible use of technology within the national security community to protect citizens. Both companies stress that their alliance comes at a crucial time when the US and China are in a race for dominance in the military use of AI. Recent months show that this is not an isolated case: Anthropic announced a collaboration with Palantir Technologies and Amazon.com in November, and Meta Platforms has also joined US defense agencies. With Anduril, OpenAI is betting on a pioneer in the Silicon Valley defense industry. The startup, most recently valued at $14 billion, is known for its reusable rockets, drones, and submarines. In addition to existing agreements with the US Department of Defense, Anduril plans to expand its activities into space and recently secured a multimillion-dollar contract with the US Space Command.
