OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed company, has completed the development of its latest AI model, o3 mini, and plans to launch it in the coming weeks, as CEO Sam Altman announced on Friday. In a strategically significant move, the interface (API) will be released together with ChatGPT. This decision was influenced by valuable user feedback, which OpenAI incorporated into its development strategy, Altman stated on the social platform X. As early as December, OpenAI announced that it was testing reasoning-based AI models, o3 and o3 mini. This marks a significant step in the race with competitors like Google, who are also working on even smarter models to solve complex problems. It was initially planned to launch o3 mini by the end of January, followed by the more powerful model o3. These new large language models are expected to surpass existing models and thus attract new investors and users. In September 2024, the pioneer of generative AI presented its o1 AI models, designed to handle more sophisticated inquiries. These models are characterized by their ability to solve even complicated tasks in the fields of science, programming, and mathematics. OpenAI assured that the o3 and o3 mini models will deliver even stronger performance than the previously introduced o1 models. Additionally, OpenAI recently announced the introduction of a beta feature called Tasks for ChatGPT, signaling its entry into the competition with virtual assistants like Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa.
