Takeaways NEW

  • Micron supplies Nvidia with memory solutions for new AI gaming chips.
  • Micron and Nvidia expand market position in the AI and gaming industry.
With a spirited leap in the curve, Micron Technology's stocks kicked off Tuesday trading, after the company was recognized as a central supplier for Nvidia's latest generation of AI-powered gaming chips and personal computers. This announcement was made during a groundbreaking presentation at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang highlighted in his keynote that Micron has been a reliable partner for years. Specifically mentioned by him, Micron provides the memory solutions for Nvidia's latest product line of AI-supported gaming chips. The introduction of the new RTX 50 series, based on Nvidia's Blackwell AI technology, was part of an extensive market offensive to further expand the company's dominant market position. Micron is especially valued for its high-performance memory chips, which are essential in artificial intelligence—a key role in the GeForce RTX 50 Blackwell family of gaming chips. The CEO praised the performance of the new GeForce RTX 50 series as outstanding and lauded the dramatically improved memory performance at 1.8 terabytes per second—a significant leap compared to the previous generation. This enables a seamless blending of AI workloads and computer graphics. "GeForce has made AI accessible to the masses, and now AI is returning to GeForce," Huang enthused. Micron, headquartered in Boise, Idaho, is also integrating its HBM chips (including a new HBM3E version) into Nvidia's H200 processors as well as the new Blackwell systems. This technology positions Micron as a leader in a rapidly growing market, which according to CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, could rise to around 30 billion US dollars by next year and surpass the 100 billion US dollar mark by 2030. The new application opportunity with Nvidia could also brighten the recently dampened expectations of investors in Micron. Mehrotra described the demand for HBM as "transformative" for the company, although the current revenue forecast of 7.9 billion US dollars for the current quarter fell significantly short of Wall Street analysts' expectations. The high-priced models of Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 chips are expected to be available by the end of the month, costing between 549 and 1,999 US dollars.
