Innovation Boost: Uptime Industries Relies on On-Site AI Infrastructure with Lemony AI

Uptime Industries embarks on the journey of Artificial Intelligence with an exciting approach: The company introduces "Lemony AI," a compact device that provides a wide range of AI applications locally. Lemony AI, the size of a sandwich, has the potential to run large language models, AI agents, and complete AI workflows on a single device. With a power consumption of only 65 watts—comparable to that of a laptop—the system can be combined to build larger AI clusters. Sascha Buehrle, co-founder and CEO of Uptime, explains that each of these devices can support a language model of up to 75 billion parameters. Both open and customized models can equally find a place on a Lemony. In a cluster, the devices operate according to individual needs, each with its own model. Uptime supports its market entry with partnerships, including those with IBM and JetBrains, which facilitate access to models from IBM. The origins of Lemony AI lie in a side project of the founders Buehrle and Ivan Kuleshov. They experimented with the distribution of language models on Raspberry Pi microcomputers, which eventually led to the development of their own device. Companies that value data protection and local processing, especially in highly regulated industries such as finance or healthcare, are already showing keen interest. "Everything stays in the box," assures Buehrle, ensuring the highest data security. In a seed funding round, Uptime secured two million dollars, with True Ventures, Alumni Ventures, and JetBrains participating. The funds are intended to further advance the development of the devices. Looking forward, Uptime plans to make its software Lemony OS operable on other hardware platforms, such as Nvidia's DGX Spark, and expand usage from an individual to teams. For a price of $499 per month, Lemony AI can be used jointly by up to five users.
