Cyberattack on US Infrastructure: 'Salt Typhoon' Causes Unrest
Eulerpool Research Systems •Nov 23, 2024
Takeaways NEW
- Chinese hackers attack critical US infrastructure.
- 'Salt Typhoon' considered the most severe cyberattack in US telecommunications history.
Chinese hackers are strategically positioning themselves within critical U.S. infrastructure to be prepared for potential conflicts with the United States. This troubling information was shared by Morgan Adamski, the Executive Director of the U.S. Cyber Command, on the sidelines of the Cyberwarcon security conference in Arlington, Virginia. He stated that there is suspicion that cyber-supported operations from China are continually aiming for an 'advantage in the event of a major crisis or conflict with the U.S.'
Particularly concerning is the hacker attack known as 'Salt Typhoon.' The previous day, U.S. Senator Mark Warner referred to this attack in an interview as the worst breach of telecommunications systems in U.S. history thus far. The stolen data includes intercepted call records, compromised communication data of prominent figures from both major presidential campaigns before the election on November 5, as well as information about police inquiries.
The Chinese government regularly denies any cyber operations against U.S. facilities. The Chinese embassy in Washington has not yet responded to a request for comment.
