Costain takes on key role in HS2 project

The British company Costain, known for its infrastructural solutions, has secured a significant contract as part of the High Speed Two (HS2) railway project. The focus is on providing the mechanical and electrical systems for the tunnels and route sections of the high-speed line. This contract, valued at at least 400 million pounds, includes design, installation, testing, and commissioning of tunnel ventilation and M&E systems. Work is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025 and is expected to span a period of seven years. There is also the possibility of extending the contract. The project scope also includes the installation of technical services within the tunnels, cross passages, as well as low voltage power supply and distribution for the open route sections. Costain is leveraging its expertise in executing complex projects, systems engineering, and supply chain integration to meet these requirements. Experience from other major projects such as Crossrail and the London Power Tunnels will help meet the high demands of HS2. Innovations, such as the use of AI-driven robots, are intended to enhance the efficiency and safety of the installations. Additionally, real-time digital monitoring is employed to optimize costs and efficiency during tunnel construction.
