Construction work slows down train traffic between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe

Eulerpool News·

Travelers on the busy rail route between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe must prepare for significant traffic disruptions in May. Due to extensive construction work, the Intercity trains of the Deutsche Bahn and the regional trains of the IRE 1 line operated by Go-Ahead will be diverted from Vaihingen an der Enz via Bruchsal, skipping several stations. Not only are the stops Mühlacker, Pforzheim, and Wilferdingen/Singen affected, but also some connections operated by Go-Ahead are completely canceled. Passengers who still take the route via Bruchsal can nonetheless expect additional stops at Weingarten (Baden), Untergrombach, the Bruchsal educational center, and Bruchsal itself. To maintain the traffic connection between Pforzheim and Karlsruhe, replacement bus services without intermediate stops will be provided. Alternative travel routes between Stuttgart and Pforzheim are recommended via the MEX 17 line operated by the company SWEG, as announced by Go-Ahead on its website. The annoyance for commuters and long-distance travelers stems from several parallel construction projects in the region, including the renewal of railway overpasses in Kämpfelbach and the construction of a new bridge. Additionally, track work is underway, disrupting rail traffic. The recent construction work is not an isolated case. Just a few weeks ago, there were disruptions on the same line, and from June 8 to July 18, another phase of train cancellations and diversions is anticipated. Travelers reliant on Go-Ahead's services have the option to register for a newsletter on the company's website. This newsletter provides information on upcoming construction projects and replacement schedules – an option also available for further lines operated by the provider such as MEX13, MEX 16, RE 8, and RE 90.
