Campbell Soup: Name Change to 'The Campbell's Company' Planned

After an impressive history spanning 155 years, the Campbell Soup Company has announced plans to drop "Soup" from its name. The company will henceforth be known as The Campbell's Company, as younger consumers increasingly prefer snacks over traditional ready-to-serve soups. This name change is the result of a lengthy process. In recent years, Campbell's has acquired several popular snack brands such as Goldfish, Snyder's of Hanover, Cape Cod, and Pepperidge Farm. Particularly notable was last year’s acquisition of Sovos Brands, the manufacturer of Rao's Homemade Sauces and Noosa Yogurt. Mark Clouse, CEO of Campbell's, emphasized in a statement that this subtle yet significant change retains the iconic recognition and the reputation built over 155 years, while better reflecting the company's entire portfolio. Despite the changes, soup remains an important part of the business, though it now represents a smaller share of total sales. In 2023, Campbell's snack sales increased by 13%, whereas soup sales rose by only 3%. Clouse stated at a shareholder meeting on Monday that while the new name is subtle, it is meaningful and respects the company's heritage while reflecting its current identity. Though the new name is not yet final, the shareholder meeting in November will vote on the approval of the new name.
