Takeaways NEW
- Market launch in Texas for autonomous truck services planned from 2027.
- Aurora and Nvidia collaborate for Level 4 autonomous driving system.
In a groundbreaking partnership, Aurora, a specialist in autonomous driving technologies, and Nvidia, a technology giant in the chip sector, are combining their expertise. At the center is Aurora's Level 4 autonomous driving system, which optimally harmonizes with Nvidia's advanced DRIVE Thor system-on-a-chip and the DriveOS software. The ambitious plan aims for Continental to provide essential components and manufacturing expertise by April 2025, to implement autonomous truck services in Texas starting in 2027.
Innovation and technological progress are manifested here in a veritable "industrial premiere," as Aurora calls the partnership. Equipped with proven artificial intelligence, the Aurora Driver System, through the use of lidar, radar, cameras, and other advanced sensors, promises secure highway operations. A rigorous safety approach also ensures public trust and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Chris Urmson, co-founder and CEO of Aurora, sees a historic milestone in an autonomous vehicle. However, according to Urmson, thousands of them will fundamentally change our lives. He emphasizes that Nvidia's leadership in the computing sector must be accelerated to sustainably strengthen Aurora's partner ecosystem.
On Tuesday, Aurora's investors experienced a comeback, as the shares benefited from the general enthusiasm for the future of autonomous vehicles and the market-wide fascination with Nvidia.
