- Amazon introduces new AI platforms called 'Nova' at AWS conference.
- The new tools aim at text, image, and video generation, competing with Adobe and Meta.
Amazon unveiled a series of new AI platforms at its annual AWS conference in Las Vegas, known as "Nova." These technological advancements facilitate the creation of text, images, and videos, directly competing with companies like Adobe and Meta, which are also advancing in automating their services. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced the introduction of the Nova models on Tuesday. He emphasized that developers had a list of requirements that led to these new services, including better latency, lower costs, and the ability to make fine adjustments. With these announcements, Amazon makes its biggest push yet to improve its reputation in the field of AI applications, after being criticized for delayed responses compared to its competitors. Particularly, video generation from a single image or text prompt is a hot topic, with Adobe, Meta, and OpenAI also working diligently in this area. Amazon introduced its Nova Reel, which allows users to create six-second videos, for instance, for product presentations on the Amazon website. Videos up to two minutes in length are expected to follow soon. In the entertainment industry, technologists are particularly eager for new tools that could make production processes more efficient. However, there are also concerns that such systems could infringe on copyrights. Additionally, Amazon developed the tool Canvas, which can generate images from short text inputs. Jassy emphasized that Amazon ensures responsible use of the software through watermarks to prevent the spread of harmful content. The further announcements on Tuesday aim to increase the speed of text editing and analysis.
