Anthropic Sets New Standards: MCP as a Bridge Between Data and AI Assistants

Anthropic presents the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an innovative solution designed to improve the connection of AI assistants to the data pools of companies. This new standard protocol, launched today as open source, promises to significantly enhance the relevance and quality of AI model responses. MCP offers the ability to seamlessly integrate data from various sources, including business applications and software, into AI-driven applications. This enables models to perform tasks more effectively and benefit from the collected information from different systems. The current industry focus is increasingly on improving model capabilities, as highlighted by Anthropic's recent blog post. However, even the most advanced AI models are often constrained by data isolation in silos and outdated systems. Each new data source has so far required a tailor-made implementation approach, hindering the scaling of truly interconnected systems. MCP addresses this issue by allowing developers to establish two-way connections between data sources and AI applications, such as chatbots. Companies like Block and Apollo have already integrated MCP into their systems, while developer tool providers such as Replit, Codeium, and Sourcegraph are also working to incorporate MCP support into their platforms. Instead of the previous isolated data connections, developers can now rely on a standardized set of protocols, facilitating a more sustainable architecture and enabling seamless integration of different tools and datasets. Developers can now start building MCP connectors. Subscribers of Anthropic's Claude Enterprise Plan can also link the Claude chatbot to their internal systems through MCP servers. The company has already provided pre-built MCP servers for systems like Google Drive, Slack, and GitHub, and plans to release toolkits for setting up production-ready MCP servers for entire organizations soon.
