Aker Solutions and ABB secure FEED contract for GreenVolt in Scotland

The companies Aker Solutions and ABB have secured a contractual award to provide Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) services as part of the significant GreenVolt offshore wind project in Scotland. This partnership marks a crucial step in harnessing renewable energy in the UK region. In the first phase of FEED services, Aker Solutions will lead the design for the high-voltage offshore substations, the overall plant layout, and the onshore high-voltage electrical systems. A key component is the integration of renewable energy sources from the floating wind farm with the power grid, which supplies both the oil and gas platforms and the British mainland. Aker Solutions is focusing on innovation and standardization by delivering offshore substations to increase efficiency in this pioneering project. The company's locations in Fornebu, Mumbai, London, and Aberdeen play a crucial role in ensuring local involvement and support. Henrik Inadomi, Executive Vice-President of Aker Solutions for New Energies, highlights the importance of collaboration with ABB: "Our alliance with ABB to support Vårgrønn and Flotation Energy on GreenVolt underscores our commitment to contribute to the expansion of wind energy in Europe." The development of the 560MW project is expected to include up to 35 floating wind turbines and help minimize industrial emissions in the North Sea area. At the same time, the ambitious goal of establishing the UK as a leading nation in the floating offshore wind industry is being pursued. The GreenVolt wind farm significantly contributes to saving one million tons of CO₂ annually, thereby supporting the ambitious climate goals of the UK and Scotland.
