Microsoft Tightens Privacy Rules for Controversial Search Feature "Recall
Following massive criticism, Microsoft is improving the data protection in its planned Windows search function "Recall".

Microsoft responds to ongoing data security concerns raised after the introduction of "Recall" in May.
Recall" is intended to help users quickly find information used on their PC. Using AI, the program analyzes the contents of captured screenshots and creates a directory of the recorded information. The user should then be able to retrieve a previously visited travel website through simple search queries like "palm trees and beach," even if the website's name has been forgotten.
To strengthen data protection, Microsoft announced that "Recall" will be disabled by default and users will have to manually enable the feature. Furthermore, "Recall" will not capture sensitive information such as passwords, credit card details, and health and financial information from websites, according to the company. Users will also have the option to delete stored screenshots individually or collectively by websites or time periods.
The originally planned mid-June introduction of "Recall" has been postponed following public criticism to allow for further adjustments. Microsoft emphasized that better protection of the collected data is now a priority. This is intended to prevent unauthorized access to the lists.
Recall" is part of a new PC category that Microsoft has developed together with manufacturers of Windows devices.
