Munich Re concluded 2024 with a record profit and aims for a further significant increase in earnings for the current year. The DAX company expects a post-tax profit of over 5 billion euros for 2024, after achieving 4.6 billion euros in the previous year. After the first nine months of the year, the result was already at 4.7 billion euros. The final business figures are to be published on February 26.

CEO Joachim Wenning was confident in being able to raise the profit target for 2025 to 6 billion euros. Growth will be supported by both property and casualty reinsurance and life reinsurance. Additionally, Munich Re benefits from a strong investment result with a stable reinvestment return.

In December 2025, Munich Re plans to introduce a new strategic program based on three pillars: property-casualty reinsurance, life reinsurance, and the rapidly growing segment "Global Specialty Insurance." The latter includes specialty areas such as transport, cyber risks, and aerospace insurance. Board member Thomas Blunck sees this as a strategic advantage, as greater diversification makes the company more resilient to market fluctuations. Growth opportunities are particularly available in Europe and Asia, also through targeted acquisitions.

Munich Re's share responded positively to the announced growth strategy and temporarily rose by 4.07 percent to 522.00 euros on Wednesday. Competitors Hannover Rück and Swiss Re also saw their shares increase. Analysts from the British bank HSBC particularly praised Munich Re's high capital return capacity, rating the stock as the preferred choice in a weakening price cycle of the reinsurance industry.

The price development in the industry has exceeded its peak but remains at a healthy level, according to HSBC analyst Faizan Lakhani. Munich Re has the best prerequisites to benefit from robust profitability and future market opportunities.
