The Indian IT services industry is showing unexpected strength, led by Wipro, which delivered a positive surprise in the third quarter of the fiscal year. The Bengaluru-based company recorded a revenue increase of 0.5% to 223.19 billion rupees ($2.58 billion), surpassing analyst estimates, which averaged 222.28 billion rupees. Net profit rose by an impressive 24.5% to 33.54 billion rupees, significantly exceeding the forecasted 30.7 billion rupees. A major driver for this growth was the positive development in the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sectors, as well as business in the American markets. For the upcoming quarter, Wipro forecasts moderate revenue growth in the range of -1% to 1%. The company's order book amounts to a strong $3.5 billion, with deals exceeding $30 million contributing a substantial $961 million. The Indian IT industry has been facing challenges for several quarters due to global economic uncertainties and inflationary pressures. Nevertheless, the business-friendly measures of the new US administration offer positive prospects, as the US traditionally represents the largest market for India's leading IT companies. While Wipro’s shares in Mumbai showed a decline of 2.45% prior to the announcement of the quarterly results, competitors Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, and HCLTech highlight increased client investment readiness.
