New Era in App Development: Emergent Makes Programming Without Code Possible

The influence of social platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok on creative processes has undeniably grown in the last decade. Now, a similar transformation could affect application development, spurred on by the company Emergent, founded by twin brothers Mukund and Madhav Jha. The goal is to enable even non-technical individuals to create their own apps. This vision was impressively supported during the recent Series A funding round, which raised $23 million. Leading the round was investor Lightspeed, with support from Y Combinator and notable figures like former a16z partner Balaji Srinivasan and Google luminary Jeff Dean.

Emergent offers a platform that allows users to develop apps through simple instructions and without deep programming experience. While Mukund Jha previously worked at Google-backed Dunzo, his brother Madhav worked at Dropbox. Together, the Jha brothers recognized that AI-assisted coding will have a significant impact on the technical landscape of the future.

In contrast to conventional development tools like Claude Code and Cursor, Emergent aims to simplify software development for everyday users. This eliminates the need to deal with technical details like bug detection or backend management, as specially developed AI agents handle these aspects.

Since Emergent's launch, over one million users have created more than 1.5 million apps – an impressive testament to the appeal of this new development approach. Currently, the platform uses Expo as a mobile client tool but is already working on its own application that will seamlessly integrate into mobile systems.

Despite the growing competition in the market, Emergent stands out due to its user-friendliness and comprehensive support for all post-development aspects. Founders and investors share the belief that by lowering technical entry barriers, a new generation of app developers can emerge.
