Berlin in a Ticket Frenzy: 29-Euro Ticket Gathers Approval

Eulerpool News·

The Berlin population is enthusiastic about the latest initiative in public transport: The 29-euro ticket receives widespread approval. According to a study conducted by infratest-dimap, 60 percent of respondents support this step. Despite its evident popularity, however, a third of the citizens see no added value in the offer. Particularly, the younger generation stands out as main proponents, with a 71 percent approval rate in the age group of 16 to 34. As an alternative to the nation-wide valid Germany ticket, which is available for 49 euros per month, the 29-euro ticket will be available from July 1st. At this price, passengers can enjoy the diversity of Berlin's public transport within the tariff area AB. Starting with regional trains, the offer extends to S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams, and buses. Advance sales outlets had already opened their doors on Tuesday to make the new ticket accessible to the public. The positive response to the transportation offer may reflect the citizens' relief in view of former economic burdens. From October 2022 until April 2023, the 29-euro ticket already made life easier for Berliners in the face of rising living costs. Therefore, this ticket is seen not only as a means of transport but also as a financial blessing during difficult times.
